Eye Treatments That Lift, De-Puff & Smooth

Eye treatments blog

Dealing with bags, wrinkles, hollows, shadows, and crepey skin? Here’s the rundown of every eye treatment to tackle every eye anti-aging concern.

The skin surrounding your eyes is the thinnest skin on your body—and often the most susceptible to the early signs of aging. While most aging concerns can be traced to facial expression, sleeping habits, hyperpigmentation issues, UV exposure, and other typical daily stressors, sometimes it’s hard to determine what’s best for getting rid of your unique concern.

Under Eye Bags
There are countless options available, from eye creams to skin tightening procedures, and it all depends on the severity of your bags to determine which treatment is right for you. If you are noticing significant bags, procedures such as EndyMed Skin Tightening may be beneficial for you as an ongoing series of treatments. If you’re seeking more dramatic results that last longer, Ultherapy will be more suited for you. If the bags under your eyes are just beginning to appear but remain subtle, sometimes a simple eye cream will do the trick. The key to selecting the right cream is finding the right active ingredients in the right amounts. Not all eye creams live up to their promises, so check for ingredients such as retinol to encourage cell turnover, vitamin C to strengthen skin, and hyaluronic acid to boost moisture. Also be on the lookout for caffeine, as it is very effective at reducing the appearance of puffiness.

Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet are usually the result of micromovements around the eyes throughout your lifetime, and while most of us can’t avoid them entirely, you’re best off trying to prevent them from occurring. Preventative measures such as botox are tried and true, but take it a step further and invest in a broad spectrum SPF 30+ facial sunscreen and some sunglasses. Many patients understand the benefit of sunscreen to prevent aging, but remember that a good pair of sunglasses can work wonders at getting you to quit squinting—and causing lines. If you already have crow’s feet and are looking to dramatically reduce them, your ideal option will be lasers such as CO2 Resurfacing, Fraxel, or Clear + Brilliant.

For anyone dealing with a combination of crow’s feet and bags, a treatment referred to as the “Madonna Eyelift” has seen incredible results through use of CO2 laser resurfacing. CO2 is an aggressive treatment that involves the use of a carbon dioxide laser to deliver very short pulses of light, which are known as ultrapulses. They are scanned over the surface of the skin to remove very thin layers of this tissue. This helps to remove the affected layers while stimulating the growth of new skin. It comes with some downtime, however, it’s results are dramatic.

“Botox for crow’s feet and Restylane for under eyes is a good recipe for patients suffering from wrinkles and hollows around the eyes. I also like to do botox brow lifts for patients if their brows are droopy and lids are getting heavy.”

Hollows
Hollows, not to be confused with dark circles (more on that in a bit) are the result of fat tissue depletion under the skin of the eyes. Without the fat pads to provide an extra barrier, skin sinks in and the resulting hollow appearance can create shadows that cause eyes to look sagging, sunken, and aged. Dermal fillers are the most effective and efficient way to instantly lift hollows and reduce the shadows around your eyes.

Dark Circles
While dark circles are caused by many of the same things that lead to hollows, it can be a specific and distinct issue for some individuals. Extreme fatigue, oversleeping, or simply staying up late can lead to dullness and paleness in the skin around your eyes, which in turn exposes dark tissues and blood vessels beneath the skin, making them appear more prominent than they are. For some patients, adjusting their sleep schedule should make a noticeable difference. However, for extreme cases eye creams with retinol may help significantly paired with a chemical peel or Forever Young BBL to even the skin tone and brighten the appearance of darker skin.
