Things You Should Know Before Getting Botox & Fillers

Things you should know before getting botox and fillers | Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology

Injectable treatments like botox and fillers are loved not only for the results, but for the simplicity of the procedures. They’re pretty much downtime-free, making it so simple for anyone who gets either treatment to go on with their day as if they’ve had nothing done. But just because recovery is very minimal doesn’t mean there is no recovery at all. So here are some tips you’ll want to know so you can plan your injectable treatments so they don’t interrupt your social plans.

Expect Not To Wear Makeup

It will be tempting to try because most of the time, you’ll be slightly red and possibly swollen from your treatments. But you have to remember that there are tiny holes where you were injected and your makeup is likely to contain bacteria. Give your skin a chance to heal so you can avoid any possible infections or irritation. For botox, we recommend waiting about 4 hours before applying makeup, and at least 12 hours after filler.

Don’t Exercise

Just once, we’re giving you a free pass to skip the gym. It’s only for one day though! Strenuous exercise on the same day of injectables is strongly discouraged because it can slow down healing and lead to swelling. And with more blood flow, you could cause bruising where you were injected or make existing bruising worse. Also, you don’t want to sweat and run the risk of irritation and infection.

Don’t Lay Down or Lean Over

After botox, your injector is going to tell you to sit upright because this will help reduce excessive bloodflow in your face. Like our no-exercise rule, it will help reduce swelling and bruising, but it will also help prevent the botox from spreading to nearby muscles. So if you need to take a nap, prop yourself up on pillows. If you need to pick something up or lift anything heavy, let it wait until four hours post-treatment.

Feel Free To Make Faces

This might sound odd, but for a few hours after botox it is encouraged that you make facial expressions like squinting, frowning, smiling, and scrunching up your face. It helps the botox work better and speeds up how quickly it takes effect. So if you can remember every 15-20 minutes, go ahead and make all the faces you want and just blame it on the botox!

Sleep On Your Back

Try not to sleep on your sides the night of getting filler. You want to avoid putting any pressure on the areas of your face where you had the filler injected because it’s still somewhat malleable during the first 24 hours. The only pressure you should be putting on your face after filler is if your injector has instructed you to occasionally massage the treated areas.

Avoid Exfoliators

The last thing your skin needs after fillers is to work on healing irritation and inflammation, and exfoliators will do just that. Avoiding both physical exfoliators as well as chemical ones is important for about 48 hours (or longer if you’re slow to heal) will give your skin a chance to heal from the injections first. Throwing anything else into the process will only slow down your healing and prolong any bruising and swelling.
