PRF in West Palm Beach

What if you could reverse the signs of aging naturally with a filler treatment, instead of simply correcting them every six to 12 months? And what if you could get similar results of some of your favorite fillers, without using any filler at all?

Filler is one of our most common treatments provided at Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology, second only to botox. And it's a clear sign that preventing and correcting wrinkles is top priority for the patients that we treat. Botox is one of the most frequently recommended treatments if you're looking to prevent expression lines and wrinkles from forming, but if you already have them and they aren't going away with botox, the most common way to handle them is to fill them up.

Most fillers are hyaluronic acid-based, and they physically smooth out your wrinkles by taking up the space where your collagen and elastin used to be. It's the simplest and most complication-free form of near-instant correction there is, which is what makes it so popular. But filler doesn't actually reverse the signs of aging, it simply hides them. If you want to truly reverse the clock on how your face is aging, that's where platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) comes in.

What is PRF?

PRF (not to be confused with PRP) is a platelet-based product and the treatment is performed similarly to PRP. It functions as a treatment option for damaged tissue, or in the case of aesthetic dermatology, aging tissue and collagen loss. PRP is already a highly effective method of regeneration, and now PRF has emerged as being capable of producing an even higher release of growth factors, which are a vital part of regenerative medicine. And when it comes to reversing aging, PRF has been shown to have results that are similar to dermal fillers.

PRF starts with us drawing your blood, where it's then placed in a centrifuge to separate out the different elements in your blood like plasma, blood cells, stem cells, and platelets. The difference with PRF is in how fast it's spun to do this. PRF spins at a lower speed than PRP, leaving more traces of blood and stem cells mixed in with the platelets and plasma. This has been found to increase the amount of growth factors in the injected area, and it is a purely natural option that biologically reverses the aging that's occurred in your skin.

Why PRF is a good filler alternative

Now that we understand how PRF works, there's another part of the process that makes it such a suitable alternative treatment for filler. In PRP, anticoagulants are commonly used to prevent the drawn blood from clotting too quickly. However, anticoagulants are not used during PRF. Because of this, the natural fibrinogen in our blood converts into fibrin as blood begins the process of clotting. This fibrin creates a porous and squishy formation, activating the platelets and releasing growth factors. This is the healing process that will regenerate collagen and plump up your skin!

Is PRF a new thing?

Not at all. Platelets have been used in medicine for a very long time. Because of it's safety and efficacy, platelets are a powerful source of healing and have been used to heal wounds from accidents, surgery, and injuries. And in the cosmetic world, they're commonly used to regenerate hair regrowth and smoother, more youthful skin.

Is PRF painful?

One of the perks of a treatment like this is that not only is it non-invasive, it has minimal pain. Some patients have reported that the scalp injections that come with PRP can be uncomfortable, but the facial injections are much less so. Even so, it's to be expected that there will be some small amount of discomfort with almost any cosmetic injectable procedure, so topical numbing can be provided if needles make you squeamish. And you should have no issues getting back to your daily activities afterwards.

What else can PRF do?

In addition to plumping skin, PRF can heal scars. Got acne scars? PRF can help. Scars from surgical procedures or injuries? PRF can help. PRF can even be a beneficial treatment for anyone dealing with stretch marks, and can typically reduce them with a series. The healing capabilities of PRF are pretty incredible for everything they come into contact with, but it's important to set realistic expectations.

PRF is a new and great option for anyone who wants to consider dermal fillers, so if you're interested contact our office at 561-805-9399 or info@supriyamd.com to schedule your appointment for a consultation today.
