Most patients describe the sensation as a feeling of heat and mild prickling. To ensure your comfort, we apply a topical numbing cream before the treatment.
A typical Fraxel® session lasts about 15-45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
One of the key benefits of Fraxel® is its minimal downtime. While most patients experience some redness and swelling for 24-48 hours, it’s important to be prepared for up to one week of “social downtime.” During this period, avoid planning to attend major events to allow for proper healing. Normal activities can typically be resumed after one week. We recommend that patients wear sunscreen daily and avoid direct sun exposure for two weeks following the procedure.
The results are both immediate and progressive. Soon after the treatment, the surface of your skin will feel softer and smoother, look brighter, and show a more even tone. The next three to six months will bring more improvement as the deeper layers of the skin continue to create new collagen.
Patients who have good circulation and a healthy immune system can normally withstand this procedure very easily. Those who are taking medications that make them especially sensitive to sunlight may need to stop taking these drugs for about a week beforehand.
