Fat Reduction in Jupiter FL

CoolSculpting® has been proven just as effective as liposuction when it comes to removing fat cells. This procedure is available at Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology for patients living in Jupiter, West Palm Beach, and the rest of South Florida.

Despite diet and exercise, many patients can’t get rid of love handles, belly fat, and other stubborn areas. So what can provide a non-invasive alternative for patients who want to see results but are not prepared for major surgery and the downtime that comes with liposuction?

We are pleased to introduce CoolSculpting®, a cutting edge technology for fat removal. CoolSculpting® is the first and only non-invasive technology that permanently removes fat and it is remarkable. CoolSculpting® technology is based on the principle that fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than surrounding tissues. During the procedure, an applicator is attached to the targeted area to extract energy and cool the underlying fatty tissue. When fat cells are exposed to extreme cold, they undergo apoptosis (controlled cell death) and are gradually eliminated, resulting in a permanent reduction of the fat layer.

Rosacea Treatment in Jupiter FL

People who are affected by rosacea don’t have to suffer from this condition. This disease can be diagnosed and treated at Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology for patients in South Florida.

Although it is not harmful, rosacea can nonetheless be bothersome. When outbreaks occur, it can result in changes to the appearance that often makes people feel self-conscious. Dr. Supriya Tomar is a board-certified dermatologist who is familiar with the various types of rosacea and can recommend precisely the right treatment for each patient.

Rosacea is a skin disease that primarily affects people between the ages of 30 and 50. It results in red patches on the face, particularly the nose, cheeks, and forehead. Even so, it can also occur on the hands, neck, and chest. Women suffer from this disease more often than men, but males who are affected normally have more severe symptoms than women. Certain triggers tend to make symptoms worse, and a few of these triggers include the following:

  • Excessive exposure to the elements
  • Extreme changes in temperature
  • Excessive hot temperatures
  • Spicy foods
  • Consumption of alcohol
  • Hot baths
  • Stress
  • Certain prescription medications
  • Caffeine
  • Topical creams containing steroids

The first thing a physician will do is try to determine the triggering factors of rosacea. Patients may be asked to keep a journal detailing their breakouts to narrow down things that are likely to trigger an outbreak. They may need to abstain from alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods during this time.

In some cases, this disease can be treated with oral medications or topical creams. Those who have broken blood vessels may need to undergo laser treatment to correct this. At Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology, we offer Laser Rosacea Therapy for our patients when deemed necessary by Dr. Tomar.

Botox® has more recently been introduced as a treatment for Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive perspiration. Individuals suffering with hyperhidrosis can read about how botulinum toxin can aid in the relief of this condition by learning more in our recent blog on this topic.

Sun Damage Treatment in Jupiter FL

Even after taking the proper precautions, many people wind up with sun damaged skin. Those who are affected with this condition can have discolored areas, roughness, and wrinkles that are very fine and coarse. This condition can result in extremely dry skin that has a rough and leathery appearance. There are few self-treatment options available, which is why many people who have this condition come to our office.

A few signs that indicate sun damage include the following:

  • Uneven tan
  • Development of age spots
  • Enlarged blood vessels, thereby giving skin a reddish tone
  • Sagging skin that lacks elasticity
  • Rough or scaly patches of skin
  • The appearance of solar keratoses, which are raised bumps over areas that are frequently exposed.

Dermatologists may sometimes prescribe ointments and creams that contain substances such as Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acid or glycolic acid. These go to work by removing dead skin cells that make the face appear dull. Chemical peels are sometimes used to facilitate this process as well. Skin that is especially sun damaged may require laser abrasion, which involves the use of a laser to peel away the top layer of skin. More than one treatment may be recommended at any given time.

Skin Cancer Screening in Jupiter FL

Suspicious growths may need to be screened further to rule out skin cancer. Skin cancer screenings can effectively be done at Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology for those who live in Jupiter, West Palm Beach, and Palm Beach County.

Early detection increases the cure rate for skin cancer. It’s recommended you do a self-skin exam every month.

The ABCDE rule is a guide to the usual signs of skin cancer. Tell your doctor about any spots that match the following description:

A is for ASYMMETRY: One half of a mole or birthmark does not match the other.
B is for BORDER: Normal spots have smooth edges. Cancerous spots may have irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred edges.
C is for COLOR: The color is not the same all over and may include shades of brown or black or sometimes with patches of red, white, or blue.
D is for DIAMETER: Normal spots are about the size of a pencil end-about 1/4 inch- anything larger is worrisome.
E is for EVOLUTION: If there is any change to the spot or growth.

Any change in size, shape or color of a mole or the appearance of a new spot should be check by a doctor. Some melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer, do not fit the ABCDE rule described above, so it is very important for you to notice changes in skin markings or new spots on your skin.

Mohs Surgery in Jupiter FL

Although it was first developed in the 1930s, Mohs surgery is still one of the most effective ways of treating common forms of skin cancer. This type of surgery can be performed by Dr. Supriya Tomar on patients who live in Jupiter, West Palm Beach, and Palm Beach County.

Mohs surgery is named for Dr. Frederick Mohs, the doctor who developed this procedure. It is considered to be the most effective method of removing basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma because it completely eliminates cancerous cells while leaving as much healthy tissue intact as possible.

This surgery requires analyzing tissue in multiple stages to be sure all cancerous cells have been removed. The patient will be administered a local anesthetic to numb the area.

Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the Mohs surgeon can begin. First, the surgeon removes the visible part of the skin cancer. Then the surgeon begins removing the cancer cells that are not visible to the naked eye. To do this, the surgeon removes the skin that may contain cancer cells one layer at a time. After removing a layer, it is prepared so that the surgeon can examine it under a microscope and look for cancer cells while the patient remains in the office. The layer-by-layer approach continues until the surgeon no longer finds cancer cells. In most cases, Mohs surgery can be completed within a day or less.

Scar Removal in Jupiter FL

Scars. Everyone ends up with them one way or another, and unfortunately there is little we can do to avoid them. However, advancements have been made in the ways in which we can reduce or eliminate them, and many require little to no downtime to treat. A scar is made up of the same collagen proteins found in healthy skin cells, however, it is not quite the same as the rest of your skin. While normal healthy skin cells weave a random pattern of collagen fibers, scars create a distinct alignment in one direction, leaving a noticeable patch of repaired skin. The fibrous tissue of a scar is typically inferior to undamaged skin, lacking resistance to ultraviolet radiation, and scars also prevent sweat glands and hair follicles from reforming when the skin has healed. So how can we reduce or eliminate them?

Chemical Peels in Jupiter FL

Chemical peels are one type of treatment that can correct a variety of cosmetic issues. These treatments take very little time to perform, and results are noticed very quickly, making them an ideal choice for those who have an important event coming up.

Hair Loss Treatment in Jupiter FL

Patients in South Florida who are looking for a way to stimulate hair growth may want to consider using Platelet-rich Plasma as a form of treatment for androgenetic alopecia and general hair loss.

Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) is typically used to treat the effects of aging, however, PRP has been able to help patients suffering from hair loss due to androgenetic alopecia or aging.

Spider Vein Treatment in Jupiter FL

Spider veins are not only unattractive but are unhealthy as well. Fortunately, treatment is available at Supriya Aesthetic Dermatology for those who live in Jupiter, West Palm Beach, and Palm Beach County.

Veins that become dark red, blue, or purple can be either varicose veins or spider veins. Varicose veins are typically larger and darker in color. Spider veins are tiny and threadlike and are also closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. Spider veins may eventually become varicose veins if they are left untreated.

The most common method of treating spider veins is through sclerotherapy. This involves the injection of a chemical into the enlarged vein which will cause the vein to swell and then become sealed. After some time, it will turn into scar tissue and then simply fade away. Multiple treatments are sometimes needed to remove all instances of spider veins, and procedures are normally performed at four- to six-week intervals.

Spider veins may also be sealed with the use of a laser or catheter. In these cases, heat is used to seal the vein. This also results in scar tissue formation, after which time the vein will not be noticeable.
