Your Complete Lip Filler Aftercare Guide

Lip Filler Aftercare

Palm Beach is known for its timeless glamour, pristine beaches, and a lifestyle that radiates elegance. In a place where luxury is a way of life, your greatest asset isn’t your designer wardrobe or oceanfront view—it’s your face. That’s why so many in Palm Beach turn to aesthetic treatments like lip fillers to enhance their natural beauty with confidence. But to truly get the most out of your results, proper lip filler aftercare is essential. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to keep your lips looking smooth, plump, and picture-perfect in paradise.

Lip fillers like Juvéderm, Restylane, and RHA all have similar aftercare involved post injection. The type of lip filler that will work best for you and your goals is expertly decided upon by our physicians. When it comes to lip fillers, we recommend not touching or manipulating the area for the first 24 hours, unless told by a physician otherwise. Dermal fillers can cause swelling at the injection sites, especially the lips. The swelling generally subsides 20-30% over the first 48 hours, and applying ice can help reduce swelling.

Lip filler aftercare is important to follow, as lip fillers may cause some bruising, typically apparent by the second day post treatment but will subside within 5-7 days. Taking certain medications like anti-inflammatories (Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aleve) and consuming alcohol can also cause bruising. After your treatment, you can return to non-strenuous normal daily activities. For best results, avoid any hard exercise or yoga the day of your treatment and continue to avoid exercise until your swelling has gone down, typically up to 72 hours. For optimal lip filler aftercare results, it is best to sleep on your back and avoid sleeping face down or on your sides.

For those on the go needing to head to an event or back to their daily routine, makeup can be applied as soon as 30 minutes after your lip filler treatment. It is advised to avoid any radiofrequency treatments, like the Genius RF laser for up to two weeks. Additionally, be sure to avoid situations where pressure could be applied to your face for two weeks, such as dental work or face-down massages, as well as chiropractic care.

Lip filler results will be noticeable immediately following treatment, and the degree of swelling may enhance the injection site for 72 hours. In the areas of injection that bruise, the swelling may persist longer than usual and may feel hard. The results will be apparent within 7-14 days. The result of your treatment is variable and depends on the product recommended. Each patient has a unique requirement regarding the soft tissue fillers that are needed to achieve desired results. Patients should wait at least two weeks to do any additional treatment after their lip fillers, and your provider may ask for you to wait longer to allow it to settle properly and gradually build upon the unique shape of your lips.

Lip filler aftercare can be remedied by several products we offer in our practice locations and can assist with bruising. Arnica cream is available for before and after treatments and applied after treatment to bruised areas 3x a day.  We also offer the Alastin INhance Post-Injection Serum which helps to reduce bruising and swelling. Arnica sublingual tablets are also available for purchase.

Your journey to fuller, more beautiful lips doesn’t end with your treatment—it continues with great aftercare. By following these tips and trusting your provider, you’ll enjoy smooth healing and long-lasting results that fit perfectly with the Palm Beach lifestyle. What should I avoid after getting lip fillers?

Do not aggressively touch the area of injection for the first 24 hours, unless you are told to massage a specific area by your provider.

How long does swelling last after lip fillers?

Dermal fillers can cause swelling at the injection sites, especially the lips. The swelling will generally subside by about 20-30% over the next 48 hours. Ice applied gently during this time period is helpful to reduce swelling.

Can I wear makeup after lip fillers?

You can apply makeup 30 minutes after your treatment. You may resume your normal skin care regimen the same day as your treatment. Avoid any facials or radiofrequency treatments for two weeks, and any situations that manipulate or press on your face for two weeks (dental work, face down massages).

How do I reduce bruising and swelling after fillers?

You may also notice some bruising, which is most apparent by the second day and usually subsides in 5-7 days. You can use Arnica cream in the areas of bruising 3x/day to help resolve the bruising faster, or the Alastin INhance Post-Injection Serum. Arnica sublingual tablets are also recommended. All products available for purchase in our office.

How can I make my lip filler results last longer?

The result of your treatment is variable and depends on the product being used. However, keep in mind that everyone has a unique requirement regarding the amount of soft tissue fillers that it takes to achieve the desired results. Patients should wait 2 weeks before doing additional treatment, after the initial inflammation has subsided.
