Considering Botox? 4 Reasons To Try It

4 reasons to consider botox blog

Are you new to the world of botox? It can be a challenge to sort through the misinformation out there about this popular injectable. So we’re here to clear up some common myths (here and here) and provide you with the facts so you can find out if this anti-aging procedure is right for you.

First approved for wrinkles in 2002, botox is injected into specific muscles throughout the face, causing movement in those muscles to temporarily stop (typically for about 4 months). The result is a reduction in wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and other treated areas. And an added bonus? Botox can actually improve the overall quality of your skin by increasing elasticity.

Botox has an excellent safety record

Botox injections (including Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jueveau) are the most common cosmetic procedure performed worldwide, with a 40% increase in use over the last decade. And part of the reason for that is the incredible record for safety that comes with the procedure. Patients who haven’t tried the injectable treatment yet sometimes get hung up on the word “toxin”, especially in today’s world of “clean” beauty. But Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® all have excellent safety standards and records. And when you select a licensed practitioner and consider botox’s proven track record and efficacy, you’re very likely to safely achieve your desired result.

As time goes on, your results might last longer

The most significant way botox is effective is by freezing the muscles that lead to expression lines and wrinkles. When you make a habit of routinely freezing certain muscle groups for extended periods of time, it’s only natural that muscle mass in the treated area will decrease. For some patients, less muscle means more time between appointments since movement might be returning more slowly and they've stopped using those muscle groups. You may start to notice that when movement does come back, it might take a little longer each time. However, keep in mind that your muscles in the treated areas will never fully go away, so if you allow too much time to lapse between appointments you may regain some more movement than before. It’s important to stick to a schedule that works for your aesthetic goals when it comes to injections.

Results are natural

When it comes to looking natural, botox has some similarities to makeup in that it isn’t about using less makeup—it’s about using the right amount in the right places in order to achieve a natural look. Having your entire face frozen shouldn’t be the goal, because some expression is still necessary in order to preserve your natural beauty. A skilled injector will know precisely where to inject in order to maintain your natural expression while still reducing movement in the areas that can cause frown lines or crow’s feet.

It’s quick & comfortable

If squeamishness about needles is a concern for you, we’re here to officially put that fear to rest. Botox injections are among the most tolerable procedures because they involve extremely thin, small needles, and when they are quickly administered by an adept injector you may not even notice when they happen. If discomfort is of such significant concern to you, however, topical numbing cream can easily prevent that. Although we have never had a patient that needed it. And as far as how much time it takes, botox appointments usually don't take more than 20-30 minutes at most, and you'll start to see the effects of your botox injections within 2-7 days.
