5 Fast Questions & Answers About Micro-coring with Ellacor

5 facts about Ellacor blog (1)

Ellacor is here! The latest non-surgical device that comes close to the same results as some surgical lifting procedures has arrived at Supriya Dermatology in West Palm Beach. So is Ellacor right for you? Let’s go over the facts.

What does Ellacor do?

Here’s what separates Ellacor from other non-surgical lifts: it actually removes skin tissue. Four to 8% to be exact. With some microneedling devices, radiofrequency and deep penetrating needles stimulate collagen production and tightening. Ellacor is different because it removes columns (or micro-cores) of skin tissue and vacuums them out. So when your skin starts trying to heal the holes left behind, your skin naturally tightens and smooths itself. You can even see how much skin was removed in percentage values on each side of your face. That’s part of what makes Ellacor as close to some surgical facelifts as you can get at this time.

What areas is Ellacor able to treat?

Ellacor has been clinically tested and approved for the mid to lower face. There may be advancements in the future that allow for FDA-approved treatment of other areas of the body such as neck, abdomen, and other areas with skin laxity, but clinical trials are still underway for more areas to ensure the safest possible treatment.

Who is a candidate for Ellacor?

Again, this may change in the future but as of now only skin types 1—4 are approved because studies have shown that hyperpigmentation and scarring didn’t occur for those who got the treatment. The good news is that those patients had absolutely zero scarring (even when treated skin was observed under a microscope), so it’s possible this restriction may go away in the future.

How is Ellacor different from other non-invasive treatments?

Ellacor relies solely on removing skin tissue to achieve results. It doesn't require light or heat energy to achieve the results it delivers. With surgical and laser treatments, you can experience significant downtime and recovery but Ellacor only requires about 1 week give or take (see below). The hollow needles on the Ellacor device quickly penetrate the skin without disrupting muscle or fascia, and instantly suck out the columns of tissue. As your body heals the empty columns left behind, your skin will have no choice but to tighten up—no heat or surgery needed.

How much downtime is expected with Ellacor?

In the few days after the procedure, you’ll experience some mild to moderate discomfort. In clinical trials, it was reported that patients needed a week to recover, but everyone heals at different paces and your recovery could be longer or shorter. However, you will want to give your skin a full week of following aftercare instructions, avoiding makeup, and using sunscreen to help your skin fully recover, even if you seem fully recovered before that. So if you’re planning any events or vacations, you’ll want to give yourself ample time to recover in advance.
